What is a Spam/Link Spam?

As the amount of links pointing to a website tell the search engine how popular it is and therefore how high up the website will be on the results page, some people attempt to create vast amounts of links to a website to try to increase its apparent popularity.

Link spamming is stands for black hat search engine optimization. There are few methods which are mentioned spam in Google’s list.

  1. Directory submission
  2. Bookmarking submission
  3. Single Article submission on multiple sites
  4. footer links
  5. keyword specific sidebar text links

Basically, when you submit dozens of directory and bookmarking links, you haven’t checked IP address. Most of all bookmarking and directory list that you get for submission hosted on same IP. And you are getting many repeated links from Same IP address that is called spamming.

The purpose of link spam is to increase the number of external links made to a site the spammer wishes to promote. A greater number of links made to a page, among other things, increases a page’s rank and improves its position on search engine results pages (SERP). Higher rankings in web searches mean greater visibility over competitors, more visitors and potentially more paying customers.

Link spam started in website guestbooks, where the spammer would repeatedly paste links to the site they were promoting. Around 2003, spammers began to attack open comments in blogs. Currently, many blog software systems have ways of eliminating or minimizing link spam.

Google read authority, IP, relevancy when you create back link from other sites. So, keep in mind all those features and take back links from high authority and different IP address.  There are few methods you can read when you create back links for your website.
